Softball Swept at Pace

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – After falling late in game one, the Assumption University softball team was swept by Pace University in Northeast-10 Conference action Saturday afternoon.
 
THE BASICS
Game One Score: Pace University 2, Assumption University 1
Game Two Score: Pace University 11, Assumption University 3 – 5 Innings
Records: Greyhounds (12-12, 4-6 NE10), Setters (15-13, 7-3 NE10)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE – Pace 2, Assumption 1
The first game of the doubleheader between the Setters and the Greyhounds was a defensive battle, as both teams only accumulated nine hits combined. The visitors got on the board first, as Jordan Dwyer reached on a fielder's choice bunt in the top of the sixth inning, allowing Kaitlyn Cahill to run home and score. The Setters would get the last laugh in the bottom of the seventh in game one, as Sophia Valle singled through the right side; Sammi Swenson and Arianna Guarracino came around to score, with Swenson scoring the game-winning run on an errand throw.  
 
Anna Tassone went 4.2 innings for the Greyhounds and allowed four hits and two runs. Samantha Hardwick went two innings and gave up two walks. 

 
GAME TWO – Pace 11, Assumption 3 – 5 Innings
Pace was all over Assumption in game two of the doubleheader, using that momentum from their walk-off in game one. The Setters scored four runs in the second, three in the third, and three in the fourth inning to go up 10-0 on the Greyhounds. Assumption showed life in the top of the fifth, as Dwyer scored Lauren Geremia to get things going. Cahill scored off of a Corin Mahan ground-out fielder's choice after that. Dwyer scored off of an Emma Bloom ground ball to round out the short rally attempt. Pace batted in one more in the bottom of the fifth, and the game ended 11-3 in the home side's favor in five innings.  
 
Kaelin Waldron went 2.2 innings, allowing eight hits and five runs with two earned. Anna Tassone pitched an extra inning, giving up three runs with one earned. Kya Birtz pitched 0.2, allowing three earned runs.
