Volleyball improves to 4-0 following 3-1 win at Felician

RUTHERFORD, N.J.– The Assumption University women's volleyball team continues to extend their winning-streak to begin the year, as the Greyhounds recorded a 3-1 win at Felician University Monday evening.
 
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED 
The hosts started the match fast, as they recorded the first four points. The Greyhounds responded by capturing the next nine of 11 points to go up 9-6. The two teams would continue trade runs, but with Assumption leading 19-17, the Golden Falcons closed out the opening set on an 8-1 run to win it 25-20.
 
The Greyhounds raced out to a fast 8-3 advantage in the second set. Felician attempted to close the gap as they would get within one, but Assumption would pull away down the stretch and secure a 25-21 win with an Alexis Distasio and Madison Lupino combination block.
 
In the third set, the two teams were evenly matched, but with Felician leading 10-9, the Greyhounds eight of the next nine points to go up 17-11. The Golden Falcons would not go quietly, as they would cut the deficit to one (23-22), but a kill from Anna Dean and an attacking error from the hosts would give Assumption a 2-1 set lead.
 
The two teams opened the fourth set by trading points in the early portion, but with the hosts leading 5-4, the Hounds ran off six straight, with two kills coming from Dean. Down the stretch, the two teams would match runs, but Distasio finished the match with her 11th kill, securing a 25-20 fourth-set win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Dean had a match-high 13 kills, while Distasio logged an 11-kill, 13-dig double-double.
  • Marissa Krawczyk led the Greyhounds with 16 assists, while Tatiana Calderin chipped in 15.
  • Barbara Illig led the team defensively with 23 digs while also having two aces.
  • As a team the Hounds recorded a season-high nine blocks, with Sophia Kane leading the team with one solo and five assisted.
  • Assumption continues to lead the all-time series 6-1.
