WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University men's soccer team dropped their home conference opener against American International College on Tuesday evening, falling 6-0 at Normand R. Marois '57 Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Yellow Jackets got on the board first, with Cornelius Christensen opening the scoring with an assist from Gabriel Nissen. Assumption battled to get back in the game as things got physical on both sides.
Daniel Paulsson tried to answer, but Morales-Fernandez saved his effort. The visitors doubled their lead through Manuel Schwarz, who was on the end of a beautiful move set up by Christian Torres. On the brink of halftime, Ali Taleb got on the back of a Simba Pelletier cross, and the game was up to 3-0. At the break, that was the score.
The Greyhounds desperately tried to get on the scoresheet, with shots from
Jan Siegel and
Peter Hasund testing the keeper. Schwarz got his second on the year in the 60th minute, sliding one by Iver Sjåvåg in net. The Hounds tried putting together some moves late in the second half, but the Yellow Jackets blew the game open. Joao Nunes and Caoi Ferreira scored within ten seconds of each other, building the score up to 6-0. That would be the final, as the Greyhounds fell to the Yellow Jackets.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- AIC dominated the shots at 19-5, with 11 going on goal to the Hounds' four.
- It was a physical battle, with both teams combining for 30 fouls.
- Sjåvåg made five saves, while Lucas Morales-Fernandez made four for the visitors.
- Assumption still leads the all-times series, 24-23-7.
