HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds and Spartans squared off from the opening whistle in a closely fought contest. After a scoreless first 24 minutes, the Spartans struck first with a goal at 25:01 by Uhunoma Frederick-Ilekhuoba, as the Hounds trailed early. The first half was highly physical; each team picked up eight fouls and one yellow card. Assumption was unable to find an answer to the visitors' early goal. The Hounds only had one shot on net in the first half to the Spartans two. Assumption trailed 1-0 heading into halftime.
The physicality from the first half remained the same throughout the second half. The visitors carried the momentum over, firing two quality looks at goalkeeper
Sebastian Podgorny, with Podgorny saving both. The Hounds had one of their best looks of the game as
Brady Devos' attempt nearly found the top left corner, but the Spartans' keeper denied the attempt. Five minutes later,
Vegard Pernes set up
Axel Gerremo on a long pass, although Gerremo's running attempt was narrowly saved. Assumption finally found their answer at 72:49 as
Daniel Paulsson fought through the defender and snuck a low shot past the visitor's keeper to even the game at 1-1. With just under seven minutes to play, the Hounds found their second score of the game.
Daniel Paulsson's pass left Rakkenes in a one-on-one with the keeper, and he capitalized, giving the Hounds a 2-1 lead. Podgorny and the Hounds' defense were able to fend off the Spartans' last efforts, as the Assumption Greyhounds picked up their second win of the season.
