HOW IT HAPPENED
Four minutes into the contest, New Haven's Erik Cedeberg found a score off a corner kick. As Assumption looked to respond, difficulty transpired as several shots were directed straight at the opposing keeper, resulting in easy saves. New Haven found their second score of the game at 16:39 by August McCiff finding the bottom left of the net. After 30 minutes of scoreless action, Assumption found a response. Grant Maurer buried a bottom-left shot off a rebound, bringing the Greyhounds back into the game. Despite Assumption leading the first half in shot attempts ten to six, the Hounds trailed 2-1 at the break.

The second half began quietly as Assumption sought to find an equalizer. However, after the Chargers and Hounds traded several shots, Vegard Pernes capitalized in the 62nd minute on a strike to the bottom right of the net. It took New Haven just seven minutes to find an answer as Alexander Gunnarsson regained a one-score lead for the Chargers. The action continued as Assumption played the ball into the middle following a throw-in, resulting in Pernes' second goal of the half, evening the score again in the 73rd minute of play. As tensions rose, the game became chippy and physical, with the Hounds and Chargers trading fouls as they each looked to take the lead. Five minutes after Pernes' equalizer, McCiff scored his second goal for the Chargers off a direct free-kick ricocheting off the bottom of the crossbar.  The Hounds could not respond in the remaining 12 minutes as they fell to New Haven 4-3.
