WORCESTER, Mass. – In the 2022 NCAA Division II Semifinals rematch, the No. 6 Assumption University field hockey team fell to No. 1 seeded East Stroudsburg University 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at Brian Kelly '83 Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
East Stroudsburg controlled the action from the opening whistle as they fired three shots and had three penalty corners in the opening five minutes. After back-to-back penalty corners, the Greyhounds were the first team to strike, as a
May van Woudenberg's shot from the top of the circle beat the Warriors' defense. Assumption would carry their 1-0 lead into the second quarter despite being outshot 9-2.
ESU responded fast and furious, as they recorded three goals in a matter of five minutes to quickly go up 3-1. With just under four minutes showing on the game clock,
Lily Daly got the Hounds within one, as
Elle Murray assisted on the score.
The visitors would silence the Assumption offense in the remainder of the contest, as they just had one shot in the final 30 minutes, while East Stroudsburg scored two more goals.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Paige Gillette recorded a career-high 17 saves in the loss.
- The Greyhounds are the first team to score two goals in the regular season against the defending national champions since West Chester scored twice on October 26, 2022.
- East Stroudsburg now leads the all-time series 5-2, as they have won the last three meetings.
