WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University women's basketball team used a solid second quarter, which led to a 53-40 win over Pace University in Northeast-10 Conference action Wednesday evening at Laska Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Pace started shooting well in the first quarter and quickly built a 10-4 lead as Tower Lorde converted on her first points with a layup. The Setters could not have asked for a better first quarter, as they opened in the first ten minutes by shooting 7-of-9 from the field. The Hounds battled back, but it was too fluid on offense for the visitors as Arianna Stockinger's three with 50 seconds left gave Pace a 17-9 lead into the second quarter.
 
In the second quarter, the Hounds turned it up on offense and defense, starting on a 5-0 run, leading to an early Pace timeout as they tried to keep their lead. With the Hounds down 19-16 following some Setters buckets, Amanda Mieczkowski took things into her own hands with a personal 8-0 run to give Assumption their first lead. Things swung offensively for the Setters, who only scored four points in the quarter. Molly Stokes was up to six points as the Hounds took a five-point lead into the second half, leading 26-21.
 
Assumption controlled the second half, outscoring the Setters 27-19. Pace did themselves no favors, especially in the third quarter, as they allowed the Hounds to play fluid offense and begin to lock up on defense. The suffocating Greyhounds defense also came to life, forcing the Setters into 23 turnovers, their highest tally on the season. Mieczkowski led the way with 15 as Assumption improved to 9-3 with a 53-40 win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Amanda Mieczkowski led all scorers with 15 points, adding three assists, three steals, and two rebounds.
• Kaijhe Hall (12) and Marina Callahan (11) each recorded double-digit points, while Emma Dahl paced the team with seven boards.
• Assumption forced 23 turnovers, which led to 18 points, while the nine Greyhounds miscues led to eight points.
• Assumption now leads the all-time series 17-14.
