HOW IT HAPPENED
The game opened relatively evenly from both sides, with the Panthers and Greyhounds exchanging baskets. Adelphi began to shoot well from the field. However, Kasey Draper picked up where he left off against Saint Michael's, scoring back-to-back buckets inside the arc to make it 16-13 in favor of the home side. It continued to be a game of runs, as Adelphi ripped off a 10-0 run when the game was tied 22-22, now leading by 10 with ten minutes left until the break. Assumption responded, with Alex Carlisle putting together a good performance offensively as his buckets got the Hounds back within three. At the break, the Panthers would score right at the half to hold a four-point lead, 45-41.
Adelphi scored seven straight out of the gate and now leads 52-41. The Hounds responded with a 10-0 run to get right back in it, led by Carlisle, Njavan Stewart, and Kani Glover. It would remain back and forth before the Panthers again tried to establish small six-point leads, all of which were answered by the Hounds, refusing to let the home side pull away. Gaskins continued his bright play off the bench with back-to-back jumpers, one beyond the arc and one within, to keep Assumption down four. In the final minutes, Carlisle scored back-to-back layups to give Assumption a two-point lead with 1:45 to play. Adelphi answered with free throws, tying the game. Once again, Carlisle stepped up with the game-winning bucket with 25 seconds left. Despite an opportunity, Adelphi could not extend the contest, and the Hounds would win 84-82.
