HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption started out hot, with
Amanda Mieczkowski knocking down two threes to force an early timeout as the Hounds led 9-3. The Knights responded out of the break, ripping off a 6-0 run to tie the game with five minutes remaining in the first quarter. However, after the Penmen tied it up, the Hounds ripped off a 13-3 run in the span of three minutes to go up 22-11 with 2:28 remaining in the first, forcing the Penmen into burning another timeout. After one, Assumption led 27-16 as Mieczkowski led all scorers with ten.
Assumption continued the strong play in the second quarter, as they expanded their lead to 39-20 with four minutes until halftime.
Teagan Kamm and Mieczkowski, in particular, were fantastic, as they both shot 4-5 from the field at this point in the game to help Assumption build the lead. Southern New Hampshire could only score six points in the second quarter, and Assumption took a 44-22 lead into halftime.
The Penmen looked more composed offensively in the second half, but almost every basket they got was answered by the Hounds. After a Mieczkowski layup, Assumption led 55-32. The Hounds mixed in multiple reserve players, including
Anna Davis and
Avah Ingalls, who both contributed baskets to build on the home side's lead. Despite a better offensive quarter, the Hounds still led 62-36 into the final frame.
Assumption kept their foot on the gas for the fourth, as a
Molly Stokes three with 3:48 remaining kept the lead at 27, with a score of 74-47. It was a resounding victory for the Hounds at home, as they blew out Southern New Hampshire 81-51.
