WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University men's basketball team scored 47 points in the second half to pick up a key Northeast-10 Conference win on the road, as they dispatched Southern Connecticut State University 79-76 Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first half, Southern Connecticut raced out to an early lead, but after trailing 9-5, the Greyhounds went on a 16-3 run to go up nine (21-12) at the halfway mark of the frame. The Owls would respond to close the opening half with a 33-32 lead, despite Assumption dominating the glass, outrebounding the hosts 24-13 with nine of the 24 being offensive rebounds.
Coming out of the break, the Greyhounds came out on the attack, shooting 60.0 percent from the floor to go up 13 (52-39) at the 12:54 mark. After a 9-4 run by SCSU, the Owls got within eight (56-48) with ten minutes remaining.
Njavan Stewart started to take over the game, as he scored six of the next ten points for the Greyhounds to increase their lead inflate to 15 points (66-51). The Owls would not go quietly, as they slowly chipped away at the deficit, cutting the lead down to two (78-76), but Assumption would hit their free throws down the stretch to pick up a 79-76 road win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Kasey Draper had a game-high 21 points to go along with six rebounds. Draper now extended his 20+-point games to five games.
- Assumption outrebounded Southern 40-31, scoring 21 points in transition compared to 13 for the hosts.
- With 10 points and 13 rebounds, Daouda Dembele recorded his third double-double and his second-straight double-double.
- Assumption is 15-17 all-time against Southern Connecticut
