NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Assumption University men's basketball team comes up just short, as the Greyhounds dropped a 54-50 decision to the University of New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference action Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
New Haven's offense exploded out the gate to lead 18-7 as Assumption struggled from the field. The Hounds started to put the pieces together, as they ripped off a 14-0 run, trailing 20-9 but using baskets from
Njavan Stewart,
Kani Glover, and
Kasey Draper to lead 23-20 at halftime. The Greyhounds prevented the Chargers from scoring for the last 5:44 minutes of the first half. Assumption took the slight lead into the break.
The second half was more in New Haven's favor, as they broke out into a six-point lead five minutes in through Davontrey Thomas, who had a strong performance and capitalized the short stint with a basket and the foul. It would be back-and-forth for a decent stretch, with both sides trying to establish a larger lead. The Chargers would get it up to five again with seven minutes left, but the Hounds would still answer with Glover making three straight baskets. Down 52-47, Assumption got within three through
Kyle Gaskins at the free throw line; however, following that, Glover could not convert both free throws and the Hounds were forced to foul. At the last play, Glover missed a three down four to try and give Assumption one more chance, but it was not enough. New Haven escaped with a four-point win, 54-50.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Kani Glover was the lone Greyhound in double-figures, pouring in 22 points.
- New Haven outrebounded Assumption 44-26, while the Greyhounds outscored the hosts 26-22 in the paint.
- Neither team shot the ball efficiently, as the Chargers shot 37.2 percent from the floor, while Assumption was 35.7.
