Football Falls Inches Shy on Senior Day in Double OT

WORCESTER, Mass.—The Assumption University football team fell on Senior Day to Franklin Pierce University 21-19 in double overtime Saturday afternoon at Brian Kelly '83 Stadium.

THE BASICS:
Score: Franklin Pierce University 21, Assumption University 19
Records: Greyhounds (6-4, 5-3 NE10), Ravens (5-5, 5-3 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Franklin Pierce was the only team to score in the first half, as Adrian Parker had a 17-yard quarterback keeper into the endzone, but a missed extra point gave the Ravens a 6-0 lead into halftime. Assumption eventually got on the scoreboard with a three-yard scramble up the middle by Jay Kastantin, giving the Greyhounds a 7-6 advantage.

After a Massimo Sgambati 20-yard field goal to put the Hounds up 10-6, FPU put together a 13-play, 99-yard drive which was capped off by a 12-yard touchdown pass to Kameron Massey in the left corner of the endzone with 29 seconds remaining in regulation. With their backs against the wall, the Greyhounds went 25-yards in six plays, which set up a career-long 50-yard field goal by Sgambati, as time expired to send the game to overtime.

After a scoreless first overtime, as both sides missed field goals, Assumption from 40 yards out and Franklin Pierce from 37 yards, the game would head to a second extra period, where Adrian Parker connected with Joziah Gonzalez for a 21-yard strike. Following a successful 2-point conversion, Kastantin connected with Nick Ofodile for a 15-yard touchdown pass, setting up a 2-point conversion to tie the game. Kastantin found a crossing Quinn Sieger, but Sieger would have to dive into making the catch, with his knee hitting the ground at the half-yard line, securing a 21-19 win for Franklin Pierce.
