SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Assumption University volleyball team saw their season come to a close, as the Greyhounds fell to American International College, 3-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference Quarterfinals, Tuesday evening at the Henry A. Butova Gymnasium.
THE BASICS:
Score: American International College 3, Assumption University 0
Records: Greyhounds (8-17, 3-7 NE10), Yellow Jackets (17-6, 10-0 NE10)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
American International and Assumption were neck and neck from the opening serve, as neither team could establish much of a lead. The Yellow Jackets maintained a slight edge as their lead yo-yoed from tied to four points for most of the second half of the frame. AIC would hold off the Greyhounds 25-21 to take the opening set.
The second set was more similar to the first, with the hosts leading wire-to-wire, but the Hounds tied the set five times but would eventually fall 25-21. In the third set, Assumption continued to answer American International point for point. Still, following a kill by
Kaitlyn Montgomery, the Greyhounds took their first lead at 12-11 since it was 13-12 in the opening frame. The two teams would continue to jockey for momentum over the next few points, but with the score tied at 17-17, the top-seeded Yellow Jackets rattled off eight-straight points to secure the 3-0 win for the hosts.
