MANCHESTER, N.H.—For the fourth time this season, No. 6 Assumption University field hockey took down a top-ten-ranked opponent, beating Saint A's on the road 1-0. The Greyhounds finish a flawless NE10 regular season with a conference record of 13-0 heading into playoffs.
THE BASICS:
Score: No. 6 Assumption University 1, No. 10 Saint Anselm's College 0
Records: Greyhounds (15-3, 13-0 NE10), Hawks (13-5, 10-3 NE10)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first half featured five Greyhound shots, and two for the Hawks, but no goals. It wasn't until the third quarter in the 37
th minute that the tie was broken.
Julia Carbone wacked in her seventh goal of the season, this one coming off a Nova Rjiks assist. The Greyhounds were outshot 6-5 in the second half, but the defense was up to the task.
Paige Gillette posted her ninth shutout on the season, making three saves in the defensively dominated game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Assumption put five shots on target compared to Saint A's three.
- Rjiks' assist was her fifth of the season.
- The Greyhounds advance into the upcoming NE10 Championship Playoffs as the first seed.
- The all-time series between Assumption and Saint Anselm is now tied 19-19.
