WORCESTER, Mass.—The Assumption University men's basketball team outscored Caldwell University 49-28 in the second half, propelling the Greyhounds to their nine-straight win, as they defeated the Cougars 80-62 Sunday afternoon in Laska Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Assumptions started fast, racing out to an 8-0 lead less than two minutes into the contest. Caldwell responded with a run of their own, taking their first lead at 9-8. The two teams jockeyed for an advantage for the majority of the first half, with the Cougars grabbing a six-point lead (34-28) late in the half. However,
Jamal Barnes connected on a corner three to send the teams into the intermission, with the visitors up by three (34-31).
In the second half,
Myles Alcindor led the charge for the Greyhounds as they slowly chipped away at the deficit and would regain the lead at 13:45. Alcindor hit an elbow jumper, putting the hosts up 52-49. From then on, it was all Assumption, as Assumption locked down defensively, holding Caldwell to 5-of-23 shooting, while the Hounds went 12-for-24 from the floor, led by
Baril Mawo's eight. The hosts would push their winning streak to nine games following an 80-62 home win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Baril Mawo led all scorers with 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting, adding seven rebounds and two blocks. Lenny Tangishaka (13) and Noah Payne (11) hit the double-digit point plateau.
- Assumption outrebounded Caldwell 41-40, leading to a 46-40 advantage in the paint.
- The Greyhounds assisted on 22-of-31 baskets on the afternoon, with Zee McCown and Noah Payne leading the way with five.
- The Blue and White outscored the opposition 35-8 on fast break points and 17-5 on points off turnovers.
- Assumption leads the all-time series 5-3.
