HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption started on the front foot, opening up with a bucket from
Kaijhe Hall and a pair of free throws from
Marina Callahan for the early 4-0 lead.
Amanda Mieczkowski started putting together her excellent afternoon as she piled in a three and a layup to push Assumption up 9-3 with 5:41 to go in the first. The Hounds kept their foot on the gas in the first half, leading 18-11 after ten, emphasized by a
Teagan Curran three-pointer. The second quarter was more evenly matched, with Bentley putting together better looks from players such as Ella Thompson and Cassidy Yeomans. At the break, Assumption led by five, 30-25.
The home side completely dominated the third quarter. The Greyhounds opened the half on a 16-2 run, running to the 2:13 minute mark. Throughout the run, the play was dominated by Hall, Mieczkowski, and Stokes, who continued their strong play offensively. The Falcons chipped into the lead a bit, getting it down to 11, but Laska Gymnasium exploded when Mieczkowski hit a buzzer-beater three from just beyond the arc, pushing the Hounds into a 52-36 lead into the last ten. Despite getting more stops in the fourth, the Falcons could not hit from all over the floor, halting them from making any comeback. Bentley shot 12.5 percent from deep despite good looks, and the Hounds took advantage of it. Eventually, the lead was too strong for the Falcons to come back from. In a huge conference victory, Assumption took down Bentley 66-47.
