PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Assumption University men's basketball team dropped their second straight overtime contest, falling to Pace University 79-73 in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The game started back and forth between the Setters and Hounds, with both sides exchanging baskets in the early going. Alex Carlisle started well, scoring five of the first 10 Assumption points as the Hounds led 10-8 with five minutes gone. The offense flow slowed down. However, Bryan Powell hit a deep three to add to his seven points and give Pace a small 13-11 lead. Kasey Draper helped try to spark a short Greyhounds run, converting on a shot plus the foul to add to a small Hounds lead at 16-15 with 11 to go in the first half. With 8:38 remaining, the game began to stagnate offensively as Assumption trailed 20-18. Njavan Stewart was fouled, taking a three, and he converted all of them for the lead. Carlisle continued a solid day so far, as he connected on his third make to tie the game again in a back-and-forth affair. With the game tied at 25 a piece, the Hounds ended the half on an 11-4 run to lead 36-29, with Stewart closing the half on a three-pointer with eight points to his name.
Pace scored some buckets to open the second and got within one at 16:11 through Tray Alexander's floating jumper. It was end-to-end stuff, with both sides exchanging buckets as Powell continued his strong night and Draper and Carlisle combined for 31. With ten minutes to go, Pace held a slight lead, with the Hounds trying to catch up. With 4:49 to go, the Setters extended to seven, with Powell getting up to 19 points. Carlisle, Stewart, and Daouda Dembele responded with seven straight to tie it up and force a Pace timeout. Dembele then gave the Hounds an advantage with 1:37 to go, but Alexander answered with a layup of his own to notch it again at 65. Both teams got a look at the end of regulation, but neither would fall, allowing the game to extend to overtime.
Pace opened up with seven straight in overtime, forcing a quick Assumption timeout. Pace only added to the lead after the timeout, as the Hounds scored overtime points when there was 1:06 remaining. Assumption was pushed at the end, but the lead was too much to overcome by that point. After an extra five minutes, the Setters would defeat the Greyhounds 79-73 behind 27 from Powell.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Kasey Draper led four Greyhounds in double-figure points with 16 while adding four assists, three rebounds, and three steals. Alex Carlisle (15), Daouda Dembele (14), and Njavan Stewart (10) all recorded 10+ points.
- Pace outrebounded Assumption 46-33 while outscoring the visitors 50-28 in the paint.
- The Greyhounds are now 0-3 in overtime this season.
- Assumption still leads in the all-time series to 22-13.
