No. 18/13 Women's Basketball tops Adelphi, 57-43 on Senior Day

WORCESTER, Mass.– The No. 18/13 nationally ranked Assumption University women's basketball team wrapped up the regular season following a 57-43 win over Adelphi University Tuesday evening in Laska Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The game started very defensive, as both teams struggled from the field. Kaijhe Hall got the first points on the day, as Assumption ended up extending their lead to 10-3 with 1:55 to go in the first, also through Hall. At the end of one, the Hounds led 12-5. Despite a slow start offensively, the defense was holding strong, as the Hounds held the Panthers to five points until the 5:45 mark as Rolanda Robinson made a 3. Assumption began to see their offense flow, as Hall made back-to-back baskets to extend the lead to 23-12. At the break, Assumption led 25-14.
 
The Panthers were able to hang around a bit in the third quarter, as back-to-back baskets from Jenna Joseph made it a 28-23 game in favor of the Hounds. Both sides would score nine points each to close out the quarter as Robinson made another three with eight seconds to go. Into the fourth, Assumption led 37-32. The Greyhounds closed up the game on a 20-9 difference in the fourth quarter, with the momentum led by Callahan and Hall. The Panthers got it within four at one point, but the Hounds turned up the defense. Assumption defeated Adelphi University 57-43 and secured the No. 2 seed in the playoffs.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Marina Callahan led all scorers with 22 points, adding eight rebounds and two steals.
  • Assumption outrebounded Adelphi 37-33, while the Greyhounds recorded three blocks to just one for the Panthers.
  • Kaijhe Hall recorded 13 points, while Molly Stokes added ten.
  • The Greyhounds clinched a share of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship for the second straight season.
  • Assumption is now 7-5 all-time against Adelphi.
