SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The trio of Kani Glover, Kasey Draper, and Njavan Stewart combined for 66 points as the Assumption University men's basketball team defeated American International College 97-87 Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

It was a back-and-forth affair, with Dada Dembele, Kani Glover, and Kasey Draper getting the offense started for the Hounds. The Hounds extended a lead up to six, with Draper making a couple of baskets and Kyle Gaskins knocking down a three immediately after checking in. Halfway through the first half, the Hounds extended their lead up to nine and looked to maintain the advantage until the break. Draper was piling together another successful half, as he shot 7-11 from the field for 16 points, double more than anyone else on the team. With the home side knocking the lead down to 43-38 with 1:23 to go, Gaskins and Draper got back-to-back buckets to add some comfort to the break. At halftime, the Hounds led 48-40. 

Assumption started the second half, allowing the Yellow Jackets back into the game, and the lead slightly decreased. The Hounds were only up by three. However, Draper made a three of his own to lead 54-48 with 15:39 to go. From then on, the Hounds started putting it together again, stretching the lead up to 14 after back-to-back free throws by Tayeshawn Cunningham-Pemberton. For the next stretch of 10 minutes or so, the Hounds would maintain a double-digit lead as high as 15. However, the home side worked it down to ten with three minutes left. Despite a late push, the visitors maintained a steady enough lead to prevent the Yellow Jackets from a late charge at the game. Assumption continued impressive conference play with a road victory over American International College 97-87. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Kani Glover led the Greyhounds with 24 points on 5-of-11 shooting from long-range. 
• Kasey Draper (22) and Njavan Stewart (20) eclipsed the 20+ point mark, as Draper was 3-of-7 from beyond the arc while Stewart was 4-for-4. 
• Both sides pulled down 28 rebounds, but AIC had 13 turnovers to nine for Assumption. 
• Assumption is 35-38 all-time against American International.
