PREVIEW: Women's Basketball heads to Waltham to take on Franklin Pierce in East Regional

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University women's basketball team is returning to the NCAA Division II East Regional. They will head to Waltham, Mass., to take on Franklin Pierce in the First Round on Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. 
 
THIS YEARS CONTESTS
Assumption and Franklin Pierce split the season series, with the road teams winning both contests. The Greyhounds defeated the Ravens 77-51 in Rindge, N.H., on January 6th before falling 80-71 in Worcester on February 17.

THE SEASON TO THIS POINT
Record: 24-5 (18-4 NE10), 13-2 at home, 11-3 on the road
  • Assumption returns to the NCAA East Regional for the ninth time in their program history, as they are the defending championships after defeating Dominican (71-49), Bentley (62-49), and Jefferson (62-57). 
  • The Greyhounds were well represented on the All-Conference teams, as Marina Callahan and Molly Stokes were named to the First Team, Amanda Mieczkowski was named to the Third Team and the All-Defensive Team, and Emma Dahl picked up All-Rookie Team honors.
  • Assumption has the top-ranked offense (67.3) in the Northeast-10 Conference while ranking second in points allowed per game (53.4). 
  • The Greyhounds rank in the top 25 nationally in scoring defense (5th —53.7), field goal percentage (6th —46.3), field goal defense (11th—35.2), fouls per game (11th—13.6), scoring margin (18th—13.0), assists per game (18th—16.4), assist to turnover ratio (20th —1.09), three-point defense (22nd—26.6), and three-point percentage (24th—34.4).

THE SEASON TO THIS POINT
Record: 20-10 (13-9 NE10), 9-4 at home, 9-6 on the road, 2-0 at neutral sites
  • Franklin Pierce is returning to the NCAA Regionals for the first time since 2014-15 when they reached the Regional Semifinals. There, they defeated the District of Columbia (78-66) before falling to New Haven (69-59). 
  • This is the Ravens' eighth appearance in the NCAA East Regional since 1982, where they are 14-9 in the NCAA Tournament, with two regional titles (2007-08, 2008-09). 
  • FPU had two players on the NE10 All-Conference teams. Anna Badosa Soler was named the Defensive Player of the Year and to the First Team. At the same time, Gisela Vazquez Segura joined Badosa Soler on the All-Defensive team. 
  • Franklin Pierce has the fifth-ranked offense (60.5) in the Northeast-10 Conference, ranking sixth in points allowed per game (57.5). 
  • Despite falling in the NE10 Semifinals to Bentley, the Ravens are one of the hottest teams in the region. They have won nine of their last ten by an average margin of 7.2 points.
