WALTHAM, Mass.– The No. 2 seeded Assumption University women's basketball team fell in the NCAA Division II East Regional Semifinals, as they dropped a 68-58 decision to the No 6 seeded Daemen University (N.Y.) at the Dana Center on the campus of Bentley University

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first quarter, the two teams would trade baskets throughout the frame, but Daemen hit two shots from deep to take a 16-13 lead into the first break. The Wildcats would start the second quarter strong, as they went on a 10-3 run to begin the frame to go up 26-16. The Greyhounds responded with an 11-0 run, with
Molly Stokes contributing five points to grab a 27-26 advantage. Gabby McDuffie regained the lead for Daemen, as she made a layup with 1:20 remaining in the first half to take a 28-27 lead into the break.
The two teams would continue to play tight as neither side could pull away from one another. Stokes continued to carry the Greyhounds with five more points in the third quarter, but at the same time, Alahna Paige powered the Wildcats. Assumption and Daemen would head into the fourth quarter tied at 42-42.
The scoring would pick up in the fourth quarter as
Molly Stokes matched the Wildcats shot for shot. Daemen would push their lead to six points, with Paige's setback jumper at 1:37 left in regulation forcing a timeout by Assumption. Stokes would hit another jumper to cut the deficit to four points (62-58), but the Wildcats would hit their free throws down the stretch to head to the Regional Final with a 68-58 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Molly Stokes led the way for the Greyhounds with a game-high 23 points.
- Daemen outrebounded Assumption 38-34 while outscoring the Greyhounds 34-28 in the paint.
- The Wildcats scored 18 points off 12 Assumption turnovers, while the Greyhounds only netted four off of six Daemen turnovers.
- Daemen leads the all-time series, 2-0.
