MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Assumption University softball team had an offensive explosion, combining for 30 runs in their Northeast-10 Conference opening sweep of Saint Anselm College Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE – Assumption University 17, Saint Anselm College 5 – 5 Innings
Assumption started fast, racing to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Summer Sheerin had a two-RBI double to left center before scoring on a
Jaiden Tonucci single to second. Saint Anselm got on the board in the bottom half of the frame, plating a pair of runs.
After adding one run in the top of the second, the Greyhounds exploded for 11 runs in the top of the third to go up 15-2, mainly due to two RBI doubles from Tonucci,
Emma Bloom,
Kaitlyn Cahill, and
Corin Mahan. Cahill pushed the Assumption advantage to 16-2 in the top of the fourth, as she added a solo home run to lead off the frame.
Saint Anselm chipped away at the final score as they struck for three runs in the bottom of the fourth, but an
Abigail Larson RBI single drove in Tonucci, making it 17-5 Assumption.
GAME TWO – Assumption University 13, Saint Anselm College 8
The Greyhounds opened the second game fast, scoring three runs in the opening inning. Cahill stole home on a double steal with
Lauren Geremia before scoring on a Mahan single to the right-center field gap.
Grace Heim capped off the scoring in the first, scoring on a wild pitch. The Hawks got on the board in the bottom of the second as Gracie O'Hara hit a solo home run.
Assumption pushed their lead back to four runs as Alyssa Johnston plated Cahill with a bunt single, making it 5-1. Saint Anselm would not go quietly, as they plated four runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 5-5. The Greyhounds answered back in the top of the fifth, as
Jordan Dwyer doubled home
Bianca Vincequere, which kickstarted a five-run inning. Larson and Geremia also drove in runs on the frame.
After Saint Anselm plated one run in the bottom half of the fifth, the Greyhounds added three runs in the top of the seventh, capped off by a two-run home run by
Allyson Wargo.
