Johnston Sisters lead the charge past Saint Leo

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 21 nationally ranked Assumption University women's lacrosse closed their Florida trip with a decisive 16-9 win over Saint Leo University on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Katelynn Johnston got started for the Hounds, scoring less than a minute in. Saint Leo responded with two goals of their own in the next couple of minutes for a 2-1 lead. The Hounds got back in front through Ella Tenney and Johnston again, with four minutes to go in the first. The Lions tied it with two minutes to go in the first, and the score was 3-3 after one.
 
The second quarter was dominated by Assumption as they outscored the Lions 8-2. The scoring was spread throughout, with Kyle Johnston, Olivia Catanzarite, Tenney, and Johnston scoring for the visitors. At the break, the Hounds led 11-5. 
 
Assumption picked up where they left off in the third quarter, with Molly Weiand taking advantage at 11:17 on the player advantage while Johnston added another to her tally. Saint Leo had a response through Fiona McLaughlin with 3:44 to go in the quarter, trailing 13-6 after three. 
 
Saint Leo scored two goals in just over a minute to open the fourth quarter. However, the Hounds closed out on a 3-1 scoring run, consisting of two from Jenna Joseph and another from Johnston. The Johnston sisters combined for nine goals and one assist on the night as the Hounds emerged victorious, 16-9.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Healey Torres recorded eight saves in the crease for the Greyhounds. 
  • Kyle Johnson led all scorers with five goals, while her sister, Katelynn Johnson, scored four goals and one assist. 
  • Jenna Joseph led all players with seven points, as she tallied two goals and five assists. 
  • The Greyhounds outshot the Lions 31-28 while winning 19 of 29 draw controls. 
  • Assumption now leads the all-time series 3-0.
