WORCESTER, Mass. – The No. 21 Assumption University women's lacrosse team gave No. 3 Adelphi a run for its money, but its bid for an upset came up short. The Greyhounds fell 14-12 in Northeast-10 Conference action Tuesday evening at Brian Kelly '83 Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption started strong, with
Jenna Joseph and
Olivia Catanzarite finding the back of the net in the opening 90 seconds to go up 2-0 early. Adelphi responded with back-to-back goals to tie the game, but Catanzarite answered with her second of the game just past the seven-minute marker. The two teams traded the final four goals, as Assumption carried a 5-4 lead into the second quarter.
The back-and-forth game continued through the second quarter, as both sides recorded five goals, with Catanzarite, Joseph, and
Katelynn Johnston finding the back of the goal for the Hounds.
The third quarter was the game's turning point, as the Panthers came out of the break on the prowl. Adelphi outscored Assumption 4-1 in the frame, with the lone goal coming from Catanzarite with 25 seconds left in the third.
In the fourth quarter, the play slowed as both sides fired four shots each. Adelphi extended their lead to three goals (14-11) with a goal from Tamia Lawson coming at 9:45.
Kyle Johnston got on the scoreboard, trimming the deficit to two goals (14-12), but it was too late for the Greyhounds, as they would come up short.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Skylar Troyan recorded eight saves in the crease for the Greyhounds.
- Olivia Catanzarite led all scorers with five goals, while Jenna Joseph led all players with six points and three assists.
- The Panthers outshot Assumption 32-25.
- Adelphi leads the all-time series 22-0.
