HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE: University of New Haven 4, Assumption University 0
Chris Klein kicked off the Assumption offense by hitting a solo home run as the second batter in the top of the first inning. The Chargers answered right back, striking for a run in the bottom half of the first with a Shaun Callahan RBI single to left center. Callahan struck again in the bottom of the third, as his single up the middle plated a pair, putting New Haven up 3-1.
Both pitching staffs settled in, and each team couldn't establish much offense until UNH added another run in the bottom of the sixth. Assumption would threaten in both the seventh and eighth innings, but they could not scratch across a run and would fall to the Chargers 4-1.
