NEW CASTLE, Del. – After falling to the top-seeded Wilmington University (Del.) 3-0 in the first game of the day, the No. 4 seeded Assumption University softball team defeated the No. 8 seeded St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans 14-4 in the 2024 NCAA Division II Softball East Regional Third Round at Asbury Field on the campus of Wilmington University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One Score: Wilmington University 3, Assumption University 0
Wilmington was the first team to strike, scoring a run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Wildcats extended their lead in the top of the third, adding a pair of runs to go up 3-0. Assumption threatened for the first time in the bottom of the fourth, as they got runners on first and second with just one out, but the Wilmington defense extinguished the threat with a strikeout and a fielder's choice.
The Greyhounds would get a runner to second base in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings but would be unable to get on the board.
Game Two Score: Assumption University 14, St. Thomas Aquinas College 4 – 6 Innings
Assumption started fast, plated six runs in the top of the first inning.
Grace Heim drove in
Jordan Dwyer with an RBI single to left field before
Corin Mahan brought home
Lauren Geremia with a single to center.
Alyssa Johnson cleared the bases with a three-RBI double to right center before scoring on an infield single by
Emma Bloom.
The Spartans cut into the deficit with two runs at the bottom of the third, but the Hounds responded with a two-RBI single by
Jordan Dwyer at the top of the fifth. The Hounds broke the game open in the top of the sixth inning, plating three more runs in the frame.
Summer Sheerin had the big blow as she hit a three-run home run over the batter's eye in center field.
Abigail Larson scored on an
Emma Bloom sacrifice fly before
Lauren Geremia's two-RBI single up the middle, pushing the Hounds' advantage to 14-2. STAC plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but that would not be enough, as Assumption would eliminate St. Thomas Aquinas following a 14-4, six-inning win.
