EMPORIA, Kansas. – The duo of
Tyler Delgado and
Malina Bohlmann became the first javelin All-Americans in Assumption University outdoor track & field history, as Delgado placed fifth in the men's side, while Bohlmann took third at the 2024 NCAA Division II National Championship at Francis G. Welch Stadium on the campus of Emporia State University.
Tyler Delgado was the first to compete, participating in the first flight of the men's javelin final. After a first throw of 55.50m (182' 1"), Delgado bounced back with a personal best of 68.78m (225' 8") in the second round. After faulting on his third throw, he tossed a 59.31m (197' 7") and a 60.67m (199') before capping off the day with a 60.52m (198' 8").
Delgado would finish fifth overall and became the first All-American in the men's javelin in program history.
Malina Bohlmann started the day strong, throwing a personal best 47.50m (157') before improving on her second throw, 49.70m (163' 1"), which broke the school record. This topped Megan Perrin, who threw a 47.98m (157' 5") at the New England Championships on May 13, 2016. After throwing 48.57m (159' 4") with her third toss, she broke the 50m mark with her fourth, as she reached 50.85m (166' 10"). She finished the day with throws of 45.75m (150' 1") and 44.70m (146' 8").
Bohlmann placed third overall and became the first All-American in the women's javelin in program history.
Assumption is the only team in Division II this year to have a javelin thrower in the top five in both the men's and women's, and only one of two teams to have a placement in the top ten in both (Missouri Southern).
