WEST HAVEN, Conn.— The Assumption University men's basketball team's fourth-quarter comeback came up short, as the Greyhounds fell to Adelphi University 76-68 in a battle of the top two teams of the Northeast-10 Conference standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
After trading the first few baskets, Adelphi pulled in front by going on a 13-5 run, hitting a pair of threes to go up 18-9 at the 10:55 mark. The Panthers maintained a 7-to-10-point lead throughout the first half, with the largest coming at the end of the frame, when Matthew Price had a steal and a layup as time expired, 39-28.
In the second half, the Greyhounds went on a 10-0 run, with
Lenny Tangishaka and Tayshawn Cunningham-Pemberton recording four points apiece to get Assumption within one, 39-38. The Panthers responded with a 10-2 run, with Matthew Price hitting a pair of threes, pushing the advantage to nine points (49-40). The two teams would trade the next few baskets, but with Adelphi leading 62-54,
Jamal Barnes drained back-to-back three-pointers to draw within five (66-61) with 1:10 remaining in regulation. Adelphi would hit 10-of-11 free throws down the stretch to hold off the Assumption charge for a 76-68 final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Noah Payne led the Greyhounds with 14 points, while Jamal Barnes added 12.
- Tayshawn Cunningham-Pemberton filled the stat sheet with nin points, seven rebounds, two assists, and four steals.
- Adelphi outrebounded Assumption 43-34, while the Greyhounds outscored the Panthers 42-34 in the paint.
- The visitors shot 38.9 percent (7-of-18) from long range, while the Hounds shot 21.1 percent (4-for-19) from beyond the arc.
- Adelphi leads the all-time series 14-11.
