Football pulls away from American International 35-14 on Homecoming

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Assumption University football team scored 28 unanswered points, as they pushed their winning streak to six games following a 35-14 win against American International College, Saturday afternoon at Brian Kelly '83 Stadium. 

THE BASICS:
Score: Assumption University 35, American International College 14
Records: Greyhounds (6-1, 5-0, NE10) | Yellow Jackets (0-7, 0-5 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
American International took the opening drive 75 yards for a 10-play drive capped off by an 11-yard touchdown pass. Assumption responded with a one-play 70-yard touchdown pass from Jay Kastantin to AJ Robinson to tie the game. The Yellow Jackets went back in front in the beginning of the second quarter, as Conor Dietz scored from one yard out. The Greyhounds tied the game once again with 4:48 left in the first half, as Kameron Robbins scored from one yard out on a stretch run. Robbins would find the end zone once again before halftime, as he scored on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Kastantin with four seconds left in the half. 
 
The second half was all Assumption, as they scored with three minutes left in the third quarter, with a Kastantin quarterback dive to go up 28-14. Head Coach Andy McKenzie would open his back of tricks, as kicker Massimo Sgambati scored on a fake field goal from 17 yards out in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 35-14 homecoming win. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Jay Kastantin went 9-for-15 through the air for 202 yards and two touchdown passes. He added 11 carries for 65 yards and a score. 
  • Kameron Robbins was the lead back, as he had 14 carries for 75 yards and a score, while Massimo Sgambati scored on a 17-yard fake field goal run. 
  • AJ Robinson had three catches for 92 yards and a score, while Will McNamara had two receptions for 53. 
  • Owen Fitzgerald had a game-high 14 tackles, while Billy Gould added 12. The Greyhounds' defense totaled six sacks in the win.
  • Assumption outgained American International 374-258, while also holding them to 61 yards in the second half. 
  • AIC still leads the all-time series 16-13.
