WORCESTER, Mass.– The Assumption University volleyball team fell in their Northeast 10 Conference opener against Adelphi University 3-0, before bouncing back for a 3-1 win over St. Thomas Aquinas College, Saturday afternoon inside Andrew Laska Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Match One – Adelphi University 3, Assumption University 0
Adelphi started fast, racing out to a 7-3 lead that quickly ballooned to 23-8. Assumption fought back with a few late points, but it was the Panthers who took the opening set 25-12. In the middle frame, Adelphi erupted to take the first 12-of-13 points to go up 12-1. The Greyhounds chipped away at the deficit, but the visitors pulled away to clinch the second set 25-11.
In the third set, the Hounds played their opposition tight, as the two teams traded points early on. With Adelphi leading 13-10, they would go on a 12-7 run to secure the three-set win, 25-17.
Match Two –Assumption University 3, Saint Thomas Aquinas College 1
Assumption was strong out of the gates, as they raced out to an 11-5 lead early on. St. Thomas Aquinas chipped away at the deficit and would cut the lead to 20-16. The Greyhounds pulled away down the stretch to take the first set 25-19. After the Spartans took the second set 25-19, the Hounds would hold on for a 25-20 win in the third set. Assumption took over in the fourth set, 25-15, to secure a four-set victory.
