KUTZTOWN, Pa.– The No. 7-seeded Assumption University field hockey team saw its season come to an end at the hands of the No. 2-seeded Kutztown University Golden Bears, as the Greyhounds fell 2-0 in the NCAA Division II National Quarterfinals, Saturday evening at Andre Reed Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first quarter, the two teams were feeling each other out for the majority of the frame, but Assumption garnered some traction late in the frame, as
Julia Carbone had a pair of shots on target and
Nova Rijks had hers blocked, but there was no score after 15 minutes. Kutztown got their offense established in the second quarter as they had three corners in the frame, but
Paige Gillette came up big and had two big saves.
After a scoreless first half, the Golden Bears got on the board with 5:40 left in the third quarter, as Marissa Rice redirected the shot by Grace Harrold off a penalty corner. Kutztown doubled their lead just over two minutes into the fourth quarter, as Harrold scored on a blast from the top of the penalty circle, past the Assumption defense. The Greyhounds had a few scoring chances down the stretch, but the Kutztown defense held firm and held the Hounds off the scoreboard.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Paige Gillette made six saves in the loss.
- Kutztown outshot Assumption 13-5, while having 10 penalty corners to just a pair for the Greyhounds.
- This was the sixth straight season that Assumption has played in the NCAA Tournament.
