WORCESTER, Mass.— The Assumption University men's ice hockey team saw their six-game unbeaten streak come to an end, as the Greyhounds fell to Southern New Hampshire University 5-2 in Northeast 10 Conference action, Friday evening at the Worcester Ice Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Assumption struck early, as
Leo Piandes scored just 4:14 into the game. Southern New Hampshire would get on the scoreboard early in the second period, as Ryan Pomposelli struck at 1:43. The Penmen' lead would double minutes later, as Jory Veenstra found the back of the net. SNHU pushed their lead to 3-1, with Brendan Lynch netting a short-handed goal, but that was responded by a
Jake DiNapoli strike, making it 3-2.
The game would head into the third period, but Kurt Watson found an insurance goal at 7:51, before Gavin Simon sealed the game with an empty-net goal with 8.5 seconds left on the game clock.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Callum Welch recorded 18 saves in the loss.
- Assumption outshot Southern New Hampshire 39-23, while also winning 39-of-69 faceoffs.
- The Greyhounds were the only team to score on the man-advantage, as they were 1-for-6, while the Penmen were 0-for-5.
- The all-time series now sits at 43-43-5.
