Men's Basketball cruised past Franklin Pierce 115-70 in a record-breaking day

WORCESTER, Mass. —The Assumption University men's basketball team used a high-powered offense and a smothering defense, as the Greyhounds raced past Franklin Pierce University in non-conference action, Saturday afternoon inside Andrew Laska Gymnasium. 
 
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Assumption started fast and would not look back, as they raced out to an 8-0 run, before expanding it to 16-4, five minutes in. With the Greyhounds leading 20-11, they would erupt on a 13-0 run to go up 33-11with 9:22 to go. The Hounds would continue to showcase their offense, as they would end the first half on a 31-19 run to go up 64-32 at halftime, with Luke Michalski leading the way with 13 points. 
 
Leading by double the score of FPU, the Greyhounds had no intention of letting up. Tayeshawn Cunningham-Pemberton picked off the opening play and took it to the rim with an emphatic dunk. He followed up with a fastbreak layup, and just like that, the Greyhounds were back in full gear. The second half featured the first appearances of the season for Michael Pitman, Luke Latina, and freshman Matt Breen. Breen, a 6'9" forward out of Wilmington, Mass., impressed in his NCAA debut with 12 points in 12 minutes. He went 6-7 from the floor; most of his points came on slams. Assumption's lead towered over the Ravens, peaking at 46 points after Hudson Geremia made a free throw. The Blue and White were in control from whistle to whistle, ending the game up by 45. 

BY THE NUMBERS:
  • Tayeshawn Cunningham-Pemberton had a game-high 18 points on 6-of-7 shooting and had three steals. Four other Greyhounds reached double-digit points (Luke Michalski – 16, Baril Mawo – 12, Lenny Tangishaka – 12, and Matt Breen – 12). 
  • 115 is the most points the Hounds have scored in a single game since January 6th, 1999, against Merrimack (116).
  • Assumption broke a 23-year-old program record for the most field goals in a single game (43). 
  • The Greyhounds had 35 assists on the afternoon, which is tied for the most in a single game in all of college basketball this season.  
  • Franklin Pierce leads the all-time series 30-18
