MANCHESTER, NH— The Assumption University men's basketball team fell in double overtime, as the officials overturned a game-winning shot by the Greyhounds, and would drop an 83-82 Northeast-10 Conference decision to Southern New Hampshire University Tuesday evening.
THE BASICS

Records: Greyhounds (16-8, 11-6 NE10) | Penmen (14-8, 10-6 NE10)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
In the early portion of the contest, the two teams traded baskets until
Kyle Hicks scored four straight points with 11:37 remaining in the first half. Assumption would hold a slight 18-16 advantage, before Tayshawn Cunningham-Pemberton powered a 10-6 run to close out the half, with the Hounds leading 28-21.
Lenny Tangishaka opened the second half with a three-pointer, before
Daouda Dembele and
Zee McCown had back-to-back layups to up 12 (35-23). The Penmen responded with a 14-0 run to regain the lead at 37-35, but the Greyhounds answered with a Cunningham-Pemberton trey at the top of the key. Assumption would continue to slowly grow their advantage, as
Jamal Barnes connected on a corner three with 5:05 remaining in regulation to go back up 12 (58-46). Southern New Hampshire closed out the second half on a 17-5 run, which included going 4-for-4 from long range and seven-of-their nine shot attempts, sending the game to overtime tied at 63-63.
In either of the extra sessions, neither side had a two-possession lead. Still, in the final seconds in the second overtime period, Tayshawn Cunningham-Pemberton's putback tip-in as time expired was initially counted. Still, after some deliberations by the officials, the referees called off the shot, giving SNHU an 83-82 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Lenny Tangishaka led four players in double figures, pouring in 15 points, while adding four rebounds and two steals. Kyle Hicks (14), Daouda Dembele (11), and Tayshawn Cunningham-Pemberton (11) rounded out the Greyhounds in double-figures.
- Assumption outrebounded Southern New Hampshire 44-41 with Cunningham-Pemberton with a career-high 11 boards for his second career double-double.
- The Greyhounds outscored the Penmen 22-4 on fast breaks, while also having 32 bench points.
- The Hounds have gone to overtime twice this season, losing in double overtime by just one point.
- Assumption still leads the all-time series 31-22
