HICKEY, N.C. – The Assumption University softball team dropped the first two games of their season, as they fell in two close games to Lenoir-Rhyne University (4-3) and West Liberty University (11-9) on the first day of the 2025 Bear Bash Invitational Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One Score: No. 19 Lenoir-Rhyne 4, Assumption University 3
After a scoreless first three innings, Assumption got on the board in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs in the frame.
Emma Bloom drove in
Naomi Cohen before
Jaiden Tonucci scored on a throwing error by the Lenoir Rhyne catcher. Bloom came around to score on a
Heather Junjulas single to center.
Lenoir-Rhyne responded with a three-spot in the bottom half of the frame, headlined by a Madison Primm two-run home run to right center field. The Bears took their first lead of the contest in the bottom of the sixth, as they scored on a throwing error.

The Greyhounds started fast in the second game of the day, as
Kaitlyn Cahill led off the bottom of the first inning with a double to center field. She would come around to score as
Kaylee Lacomb reached on a throwing error on a sacrifice attempt.
Paige Cote cruised through the first three innings in the circle for the Greyhounds, as she scattered four hits and struck out one without allowing a run. West Liberty eventually broke through in the top of the fourth, plating three runs in the frame. The Hounds responded in the bottom half of the frame as
Maddy Bland roped a double to center field, driving in
Emma Bloom on the play. Assumption tied the game later in the frame, as Cahill scored on a foul out to left field. The Hilltoppers broke the game open in the top of the sixth, plating eight runs to go up 11-3. In the bottom half of the sixth, Cohen scampered home on a Cahill sacrifice fly to right field. The Hounds closed the gap in the bottom of the seventh, as they struck for five runs and threatened for more but would fall 11-9.
