Softball wraps up weekend in North Carolina

HICKORY, N.C. – The Assumption University softball team dropped a pair on Sunday afternoon's final day of the Lenoir -Rhyne Bear Bash, as the Greyhounds fell to Young Harris College and Augusta University.

Game One Score: Young Harris College 11, Assumption University 8 – 9 Innings
Game Two Score: Augusta University 11, Assumption University 3 – 5 Innings

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One Score: Young Harris College 11 Assumption University 8 – 9 Innings
Assumption was the first team to score, as Molly Green doubled home a pair in the bottom of the second inning. Young Harris cut into the deficit in the top of the third with a single through the right side of the infield. Emily Balducci regained a two-run advantage with an infield single in the bottom of the fifth.

After a bases-loaded walk in the top of the sixth, making the score 3-2, Kaitlyn Cahill pushed the Assumption advantage to 5-2 with a two RBI single through the right side of the infield. The Mountain Lions tied the game in the top of the seventh with three runs before going up 7-5 in the top of the eighth. The Hounds pushed the game to another extra inning, as Balducci and Nadia Zach recorded RBI in the bottom half of the eighth. Young Harris would win it in the ninth, scoring four runs in the top half, while the Greyhounds scratched one across in the bottom of the frame. 

Game Two Score: Augusta University 11, Assumption University 3 – 5 Innings
Naomi Cohen put Assumption on top in the top of the first, as her single to right field plated Kaylee Lacomb from third. Augusta responded with two runs in the second, five in the third, and three more in the fourth to go up 10-1

In the top of the fifth, Cahill came to the plate with the bases loaded and just missed out on a grand slam, but two runs would score, putting the deficit at 10-3. The Jaguars would end the game in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single through the left side.
