Women's Basketball secure Senior Night win 53-41 over Pace

WORCESTER, Mass.—The Assumption University women's basketball team locked up a Northeast-10 Conference playoff home contest, as the Greyhounds dispatched Pace University 53-41 on Tuesday evening on Senior Day.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
After a defensive stop on the first possession, Kaijhe Hall made a layup and a turnaround jumper to spark the Hounds offense. The team turned the spark into a fire, beginning the game on a 10-2 run. The opening quarter closed with the Greyhounds in front 10-5. Assumption shot 50 percent from the floor in the first quarter, 42.9 percent in the second, and outrebounded the Setters 21-14 in the first half. The Greyhounds were building a game to be proud of. They dictated the tempo and played their style of basketball efficiently to gear up for the postseason. 

Marina CallahanMolly Stokes, and Kaijhe Hall were clicking on the court as usual. The trio combined to mustard 36 points en route to the win. Callahan finished putting together another double-double performance in the second half with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Stokes led the game in scoring 15 points and dished out six assists. Hall put up eight points, shooting an effective 4-5. In the final quarter, Assumption pulled away. Their largest lead of 18 points came with five minutes left in the game, proving the consistent quality of their wire-to-wire win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Callahan's double-double is the ninth of her collegiate career. 
  • Stokes moves from tenth to ninth in total scoring in the Greyhounds women's basketball record books with 1,256 total points. She needs 35 points to move into the eighth position.
  • Assumption's bench contributed 17 points, led by Teagan Kamm, who scored nine and captured seven rebounds.
  • Each team scored 30 points in the paint.
  • Pace leads the all-time series 18-17.
