WALTHAM, Mass.— The Assumption University men's basketball team suffered a buzzer-beating loss at Bentley University Saturday afternoon, as they Greyhounds dropped a 69-68 Northeast-10 Conference decision at the Dana Center.
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The two teams traded the first few baskets of the contest, but Cooper Farrall recorded the game's first ten points for Bentley. The Greyhounds saw the game's first multi-possession lead, as
Noah Payne drained a shot from long-range at 11:54 of the first half. The Falcons responded with a 24-5 run, hitting four-of-five from deep, and held Assumption to just 2-of-11 from the field. The Hounds recovered in the final three minutes of the half, as Payne powered Assumption on a 12-4 run, cutting the halftime deficit to seven (35-28).
In the second half, the Greyhounds came out more aggressive, as they went on a 14-7 run to tie the game at 42-42 after being down as much as 15 (31-16 – 3:35 of the first half). Payne hit a spinning layup to give the Hounds a lead at 12:33, but
Njavan Stewart drilled a three-pointer forcing Bentley to call their second timeout of the second half in the opening eight minutes. After
Kyle Hicks converted on a mid-range jumper, Bentley went on a 14-6 run to regain the lead with 7:32 remaining in regulation. Stewart answered immediately with a corner three, putting the Greyhounds back in front (58-56). The two teams continued to be neck and neck till the final seconds. With the score tied at 66-66,
Noah Payne hit a turnaround from the right elbow with 2.1, putting the Hounds up 68-66, but it was Cash McClure that would drain the game-winning three-pointer as time expired to give Bentley the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Njavan Stewart led the Greyhounds with 17 points, while Tayshawn Cunningham-Pemberton (14), Noah Payne (14), and Lenny Tangishaka (10) recorded double-digit points.
- Bentley outrebounded Assumption 43-37, while the Greyhounds outscored the Falcons 26-22 in the paint.
- The Hounds turned 13 Bentley turnovers into 18 points, while only surrendering eight off seven miscues.
- The Falcons shot 17-of-21 from the charity stripe, while the Greyhounds were 10-of-13.
- Bentley leads the all-time series 61-38
