Women's Basketball falls to Holy Family in NCAA Division II First Round

WALTHAM, Mass.—The No. 6 seeded Assumption University women's basketball season has come to a close in the first round of the 2025 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball East Regional, as they fell to the No. 3 seeded Holy Family University, 67-53, Friday afternoon at the Dana Center on the campus of Bentley University
 
THE BASICS:

Records: Greyhounds (19-14, 9-11 NE10), Tigers (25-6, 13-3 CACC)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Kaijhe Hall got Assumption to start strong, as she scored the first two baskets of the game and six of the first seven points for the Greyhounds. Holy Family took their first lead of the game at the 2:33 mark, as Kaelah Carter drained a corner jumper, putting HFU up 8-7. After a Marina Callahan basket, the Tigers hit a three-pointer, putting themselves up 11-9 after the first quarter
 
Holy Family started the second quarter strong, as they went on a 12-4 run to begin the frame to go up 23-13. Laura Johnson-Shedd went on a personal 5-0 run, cutting the deficit to five (23-18). The Tigers would continue to add to their advantage late in the first half, as they would go on a 6-2 run to head into the intermission up 29-20. 
 
The Tigers pulled away in the third quarter. They shot 7-of-13 from the floor, led offensively by Carolyn Prevost and Taylor Hinkle. Holy Family outscored Assumption 20-12 in the quarter to head into the fourth quarter up 49-32. In the fourth, HFU pushed their lead to 21 points (58-37) with 6:22 to go, but the Greyhounds would not quit but would fall 67-53. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Kajihe Hall had a game-high 16 points and eight rebounds, while Molly Stokes added 12 points. 
  • Marina Callahan stuffed the stat sheet with seven points, six rebounds, five steals, and one block. 
  • Holy Family outrebounded Assumption 38-26
  • This was the third straight year that the Greyhounds reached the NCAA Tournament, which is the first time in program history that they accomplished that feat. 
  • Holy Family now leads the all-time series 2-0.
