Men's Lacrosse upset in NE10 First Round by Bentley, 12-11

WORCESTER, Mass. – The fourth-seeded Assumption University men's lacrosse team was upset in the Northeast-10 Conference First Round, as the Greyhounds fell to the fifth-seeded Bentley University 12-11 on Saturday afternoon at Brian Kelly '83 Stadium.

THE BASICS
Score: No. 5 Bentley University 12, No. 4 Assumption University 11
Records: Greyhounds (10-4, 5-4 NE10), Falcons (8-5, 5-4 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption began the game with a goal 36 seconds into the action when Brian Shortt scored his 14th of the season. The lead changed hands after Bentley answered with back-to-back goals to make it 2-1. Shortt buried the equalizer, Colby Bailey-Gates and Cameron Theriault filled the net to help the Hounds to a 5-3 lead after the first quarter.

Shance Corcoran was outstanding in goal for the Greyhounds in the opening half, making sprawling saves with both body and stick. Corcoran's performance allowed Assumption to play with the lead most of the game.

At halftime, the score was 7-6 Greyhounds, thanks to goals by Brady McNulty and Boomer Staunton in the second quarter. An even third quarter featured three goals from each team, pushing the one-goal game into the final 15 minutes of play. Ryan Bogar extended the Assumption lead to two goals early in the fourth, but that would be all that the Greyhounds would get, as Bentley scored the final three goals, including the game-winner coming off the stick of Will Adams with 8:32 remaining in regulation.
