PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.—The Assumption University softball team is moving on to the Northeast-10 Conference Championship game, as they eliminated the No. 7-seeded Adelphi University Panthers with a 7-4 final score, Friday afternoon at the Pace Softball field.
THE BASICS
Score: No. 6 Assumption University 7, No. 7 Adelphi University 4
Records: Greyhounds (21-26, 10-10 NE10), Panthers (24-27, 10-10 NE10)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Assumption started fast, as they plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Maddy Bland drove in one with a single to left, before
Alyssa Johnson plated a pair with a double to left center field, making it 3-0 after one. Adelphi responded in the top of the second with three runs of their own to tie the game.
Raigan Gregoire drove in
Jaiden Tonucci with a suicide squeeze play in the bottom of the second inning to go up 4-3.
The Greyhounds broke the game open in the bottom of the third inning, as they struck for three more runs to go up 7-3 with Johnson,
Emma Bloom, and
Izzy Viglione driving in runs in the frame. The Panthers would add one run in the top of the fourth, but would strand the bases loaded. Adelphi would threaten in the sixth and seventh, but the Greyhounds hold them at bay and would eliminate the Panthers with a 7-4 final score.
