WORCESTER, Mass.— The Assumption University men's soccer team picked up its first win against Molloy University, as
Sekou Kouyate scored in the 82
nd minute to cap off Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at Normand R. Marois '57 Field.
THE BASICS:
Score: Assumption University 1, Molloy University 0
Records: Greyhounds (2-1-0, 0-0-0 NE10) | Lions (1-1-1, 0-0-0 ECC)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first half was physical as both teams were called for five fouls, while both teams fired seven shots. Neither team would find the back of the cage in the opening 45 minutes.
The first goal of the game would come with just eight minutes remaining in regulation, as
Sekou Kouyate scored on a two-on-one play with
Matthew Lamour. The Greyhounds' defense would stiffen up and would not allow a shot in the final seven minutes of the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Cathal Carney recorded six saves in the contest for his second shutout of the year.
- Kouyate recorded his second career goal while picking up his first collegiate game-winner.
- Assumption outshot Molloy 12-11, while the visitors had the advantage in corner kicks (5-4).
- The Lions now lead the all-time series 5-1-3
