WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University football team collected three of the four Northeast 10 Conference weekly awards, while
Elizabeth Schoeneberger took home Rookie of the Week honors for Women's Soccer, as announced by the Conference office Monday afternoon.
Football Offensive Player of the Week
Jay Kastantin, Assumption
Junior | Quarterback | Needham, Mass.
Kastantin accounted for 355 yards of total offense (241 passing, 114 rushing) as the Greyhounds posted a 28-26 road triumph at Franklin Pierce. He completed 18-of-28 pass attempts and threw for a trio of touchdowns (4, 13, 80) while directing Assumption on a game-winning field goal drive in the final minute of play. He also earned the Division II/III New England Football Association Gold Helmet Award.
Football Defensive Player of the Week
Owen Fitzgerald, Assumption
Junior | Linebacker | Auburn, Mass.
Fitzgerald continues to lead the NE10 in tackles as he added 13, with two for a loss, in Assumption's last-minute 28-26 win at Franklin Pierce.
Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Massimo Sgambati, Assumption
Senior | Kicker | Farmington Hills, Mich.
Sgambati drilled a 49-yard field goal with 30 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, lifting Assumption past Franklin Pierce, 28-26. He also added a 26-yarder to put the Greyhounds up 17-7 in the second quarter, while adding six kickoffs totaling 392 yards and five touchbacks.
Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week
Elizabeth Schoeneberger, Assumption
Freshman | Forward | Manchester, Conn.
Schoeneberger recorded three goals in two games this week, as Assumption remains the only unbeaten team in the NE10. She scored the game-winner at Southern Connecticut on Tuesday, before scoring a pair of tallies, including the game-winning goal against SNHU on Saturday. Schoeneberger now leads the NE10 with three game-winning goals, is tied for the lead in goals (6), and ranks second in points (14).
