WORCESTER, Mass. – After a combined 6-0 week, the Assumption University tennis programs earned three of the four weekly Northeast 10 Conference awards, as announced by the Conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
NE10 Player of the Week
Michele Elia, Assumption
Sophomore | Frankfurt, Germany
Elia went undefeated for the week, as he led Assumption to two key NE10 wins, improving the team to 4-0 on the year and 3-0 in league action. On Wednesday, he picked up a win at No. 1 doubles with
Igor Kubalka at Southern New Hampshire (6-4), before winning at No. 2 singles (6-3, 4-6, 6-4). Elia capped off the week with a 6-4 at top-flight doubles, before cruising to a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles against Saint Michael's. The win over SNHU is the Greyhounds' first win in Manchester since 2015.
NE10 Rookie of the Week
Kristoffer Podenphant, Assumption
Freshman | Frederiksberg, Denmark
Podenphant went 3-0 on the week, as Assumption remains undefeated. He opened the week with a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles against Endicott on Thursday, before winning at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-2. Podenphant capped off the week with a 6-2, 1-6, 10-6 win at No. 6 singles to help the Greyhounds win 6-1 against Saint Michael's on Saturday.
NE10 Rookie of the Week
Darja Trinerova, Assumption
Freshman | Holysov, Czech Republic
Trinerova went 6-0 on the week, as Assumption picked up three NE10 wins this week. She won all three of her top-flight double matches with
Laurence Bosmans (6-2 at Bentley, 6-4 at SNHU, and 6-1 vs. Saint Michael's), while also winning all three matches at No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-2 at Bentley | 6-2, 6-4 at SNHU | 6-2, 6-4 vs. Saint Michael's). It was the Greyhounds' first win at SNHU since the spring of 2005.
