HOW IT HAPPENED
Kutztown started strong, as they went on a nine-play, 66-yard drive to open the game with a one-yard touchdown plunge by Luke Maxwell. After Assumption's first drive stalled out, the Golden Bears went on a 14-play, 71-yard march for their second score of the game, capped off by a 22-yard pass by quarterback Judd Novak to Lenniek Preston, to go up 14-0 after one quarter.
The Greyhounds responded nearly instantly, as
Jay Kastantin hit
Kameron Robbins for a five-yard out pass, before ripping off a 46-yard run to close out the first quarter. On the first play of the second quarter, the senior signal caller found
Keith Mancini for a 24-yard TD strike. The host would slowly pull away with a pair of rushing touchdowns and a safety sandwiched between them to go up 30-7 with 2:15 remaining in the first half. The Hounds would not go quietly, as Kastantin would connect with Mancini once again with a two-yard TD strike.
In the second half, the scoring would slow down, but the rain and the storms would pick up. After a 90+ minute lightning delay, Kutztown would score on a 3
rd and 35 with a 39-yard run by Jaedyn Stewart. After the extra point, the game would return to an extended lightning delay. The Golden Bears would outscore the Greyhounds 14-0 in the final frame, making the final score 51-14.
