WORCESTER, Mass.— The Assumption University men's basketball team suffered their first home loss of the season, as they fell to Bentley University 85-81 in Northeast 10 Conference action, Saturday afternoon inside Laska Gymnasium.
THE BASICS:
Score: Bentley University 85, Assumption University 81
Records: Greyhounds (10-6, 5-2 NE10) | Falcons (11-5, 4-3 NE10)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The game started as an evenly matched ball game, with neither side able to take control. Assumption was the first team to take a multi-possession advantage, as they went on an 8-0 run while being down 21-18, and would go up 26-21. Bentley rallied to tie the game, but Jordan Elliott hit a three-pointer in the final three seconds to give the visitors a 34-33 lead into the locker rooms.
Coming out of the intermission, the game remained tight, but the Falcons would take their first multi-possession lead following a 12-3 run, going up 64-56 with 9:53 remaining in regulation. The Greyhounds continued to battle back, as a
Zee McCown three-pointer with 48 seconds left in regulation, cut the Bentley advantage down to just two points (81-79). The Falcons would hit a few free throws down the stretch to pull away for an 85-81 final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Baril Mawo was a perfect 8-of-8 shooting for 17 points, while adding seven rebounds.
- Zee McCown and Tayeshawn Cunningham-Pemberton each chipped in 16 points.
- Bentley outrebounded Assumption 35-31, while the two teams scored 40 points in the paint.
- The Greyhounds were one off of tying a season high in team blocks, as Lenny Tangishaka had three of the team's nine rejections.
- Assumption had their 10-game home regular season winning streak come to an end.
- Bentley still leads the all-time series 56-30
