MANCHESTER, N.H.— The Assumption University men's basketball team had a late run, but their comeback attempt came up short, as they fell to Saint Anselm College, 100-86, in Northeast 10 Conference action, Wednesday evening. 

THE BASICS:

Records: Greyhounds (10-7, 5-3 NE10) | Hawks (14-4, 7-1 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
The first few minutes of the contest were close, as neither side could establish a multi-possession lead. Saint Anselm was the first team to grab a sizeable advantage, going on a 13-0 run while leading 13-12 to go up 24-12 with 9:03 left in the first half. Their lead would continue to inflate to 15 points (35-20) with 5:05 to go in the frame, but Assumption had a 7-0, which would trim the deficit down to eight (35-27). The hosts would close out the first half on an 11-6 burst, to head into the break up 46-33. 
 
The two teams traded the first few points out of the intermission, but with Saint Anselm up 52-38, the Hawks would score 12-straight points in 1:20 on the game clock, ballooning their lead to 26 (64-38), with 16:26 left to play. Assumption would slowly chip away at the deficit and would get it down to ten (90-80) with 2:38 left in regulation, but the hosts would continue to answer each run, and they would hold on for a 100-86 final score.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Tayshawn Cunningham-Pemberton and Noah Payne led the way for Assumption, as both players scored 15 points. 
• Daouda Dembele (12), Baril Mawo (11), and Zee McCown all recorded 10+ points. 
• Saint Anselm out-rebounded Assumption 40-35, while the Greyhounds had the edge in second-chance points (17-9). 
• The Hounds' defense forced a season-high 21 Hawks turnovers and scored 31 points off those miscues.
• This was the 10^th time this season that Assumption has recorded 10+ steals. They are now 7-3 in those games.  
• Saint Anselm still leads the all-time series 73-56
