WORCESTER, Mass.– The Assumption University women's ice hockey team played to a 2-2 tie against the College of Holy Cross Thursday evening at the Hart Center Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Holy Cross struck first late in the opening period, as Violet Carroll found the back of the net at 17:17 to give the Crusaders a 1-0 advantage. Assumption goaltender
Taylor Thompson kept the Greyhounds within one, making nine saves in the opening 20 minutes.
Assumption responded with a strong second period, outshooting Holy Cross 17-1 and scoring twice.
Haven Mills tied the contest at 15:50 with her second goal of the season, assisted by
Allison Ryan and
Isabella Zolezzi. Just 2:30 later,
Alexa Hanrahan capitalized on the power play for her first goal of the season, with
Megan Tremblay and
Rachel Agerter picking up the assists, sending the Greyhounds into the second intermission with a 2-1 lead.
The Greyhounds held the one-goal advantage deep into the third period, but Holy Cross pulled its goaltender for the extra attacker in the closing minutes. Manuela Heidenberger tied the game at 18:29, sending the contest to overtime at 2-2.
Neither side could break the tie during the five-minute overtime period. Assumption generated two shots on goal in the extra session, while Thompson turned aside all three Holy Cross attempts on target, as the game ended in a
2-2 tie.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Taylor Thomas recorded 23 saves in her first career game between the pipes for Assumption.
- Assumption outshot Holy Cross 28-25 and won 35 of 54 faceoffs.
- The Greyhounds went 1-for-6 on the power play, while the Crusaders went scoreless on their one attempt.
