No. 10 Field Hockey runs winning streak to six after 2-1 win at Pace

PLEASANTVILLE, NY. – The No. 10 nationally ranked Assumption University field hockey team saw goals from Nova Rijks and Mieke Rentsch to extend the Greyhounds' winning streak to six games, following a 2-1 win at Pace University on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption struck first in the opening quarter, capitalizing on a penalty corner at the 7:24 mark. Nova Rijks found the back of the cage, with Daisy Stone contributing to the scoring opportunity, to give the Greyhounds a 1-0 advantage. Less than five minutes later, Assumption converted another penalty corner when Mieke Rentsch scored at 12:01 on assists from Rijks and Stone to double the lead to 2-0.
 
The Greyhounds maintained their two-goal advantage throughout the second quarter, outshooting Pace 2-0. Giada Broccoli and Khianna Jackson each recorded shots on goal, but the Setters' goalkeeper turned aside both attempts to keep the score at 2-0 heading into halftime.
 
Pace increased its offensive pressure in the third quarter, outshooting Assumption 7-1 and earning six penalty corners. The Greyhounds' defense held firm, blocking multiple attempts, while Abigail Derosier made a key save in the closing minute to preserve the 2-0 lead entering the fourth.
 
The Setters broke through at the 50:23 mark of the fourth quarter when Josefina Villa Alonso scored off an assist from Feline Rook, cutting Assumption's lead to 2-1. Pace continued to apply pressure, earning five penalty corners in the final three minutes, but Derosier and the Greyhounds' defense held strong. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Abbie Derosier recorded six saves for her third win of the year. 
  • Pace outshot Assumption 20-8 and doubled up the Greyhounds on penalty corners (14-7). 
  • Daisy Stone extended her point streak to six games, and an assist streak to four. 
  • The 51st-minute goal snapped Derosier's 196:37 shutout streak, dating back to the 34th minute against Kutztown.
  • Assumption now leads the all-time series 14-4.
