WORCESTER, Mass -- The Assumption University volleyball team wrapped up their home schedule with a 3-0 Northeast 10 Conference sweep of Southern New Hampshire University, Tuesday evening inside Andrew Laska Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Southern New Hampshire jumped out to an early 5-2 advantage in the opening set, but Assumption battled back to even the score at 5-5 behind consecutive blocks from
Cate Wettstone. The two teams continued to trade points, with the Penmen holding an 18-17 lead late in the frame. The Greyhounds responded with four consecutive points, highlighted by a kill from Wettstone and a block from Wettstone and
Lily Petrocelli, to take a 21-18 advantage. Assumption closed out the opening set on a service ace from
Lila Handrahan to secure the 25-20 victory.
The Greyhounds carried that momentum into the second set, jumping out to an early 6-2 lead behind kills from
Kaitlyn Montgomery and a service ace from
Brennah Abilheira-Cargill. Assumption extended its advantage to 12-5, with Wettstone and Petrocelli contributing offensively. The Penmen trimmed the deficit to four at 15-11, but the Greyhounds responded with a 5-1 run to regain control. Petrocelli added two late kills as Assumption cruised to a 25-15 victory and a commanding 2-0 match lead.
Assumption dominated the third set, racing out to a 5-2 advantage before rattling off 10 consecutive points behind the serving of
Grace Presswood to extend the lead to 15-2. The run featured three kills from Petrocelli, two from
Nora Sharkey, and multiple blocks from Wettstone. The Greyhounds continued to roll, with Montgomery and Petrocelli adding kills down the stretch before Wettstone delivered the match-clinching kill to secure the 25-11 victory and complete the three-set sweep.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Petrocelli led the Greyhounds with nine kills on a .529 hitting percentage, while Montgomery added seven kills on nine attempts, hitting .667.
- Wettstone contributed six kills while dominating defensively at the net with five solo blocks and five block assists. Her 10 total blocks are the most in a three-set match in the NE10, since Elizabeth Blinn of Bentley had 11 on Sept. 30, 2025.
- Natalie Brojek directed the offense with 16 assists, while Presswood added six assists and a service ace.
- Makenna Glenn anchored the back row with a match-high 13 digs.
- With their fourth win in NE10 action, Assumption now has the most wins in conference action since 2021.
- SNHU still leads the all-time series 28-26.
